ALL ABOUT FLORENCE

ALL ABOUT FLORENCE – Florence deserves much more than just one day.

Even sticking to the “must sees” you should consider at least three full days in town.

It is not just a matter of monuments and museums, of course.

To catch the mood, enjoy the atmosphere of the different hours of the day, the artisans shops, the traditional markets, to taste the wines and foods, get lost in the old streets, admire the historical gardens, trust us, you need a week at least!

Still, if for some reason you have just one day, we can help you anyway designing for you what we consider a well balanced itinerary, providing you are good walkers, with good shoes and a strong interest in art and history.

We are happy to give advise if required and we’ll do our best to customize according to your requests.

Morning tour, from 9.00 to 12.00 approximately: we could start with Florence’s civic center, Piazza della Signoria, famous for its centuries old statues at ‘ Loggia dei Lanzi’ (each of them has its stories and legends) and towered by Palazzo Vecchio, the noble Medieval building that has witnessed over 700 years of political vicissitudes, from the Medici to Savonarola until our days.

From here All About Florence moves to Santa Croce, an enormous Gothic Church located in a very spacious and luminous square. Inside we will admire the frescoes by Giotto and we’ll pay homage to the tombs of some of the greatest Italians, such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, Rossini.
Not far is the family run Leather School, where we’ll learn about the traditional tecniques of this Florentine excellence. The top star of our morning will be Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery (we will prebook for you).

Your guide will drop you somewhere around San Lorenzo market for a quick lunch (an hour break) and will suggest a place for a good gelato to recreate our minds and bodies!

Back to duty, at around 1.00 pm or so, we’ll reach the nearing Piazza del Duomo, awesome religious center of Florence, a vision of majestic, colorful architectures, whose construction mirrors the history of the city itself.

Hard to tell which of this buildings wins the title of most famous icon of Florence!

We continue our All About Florence walk in beauty and history passing by Palazzo Strozzi (where we’ll stop to admire the elegant Renaissance courtyard) to finally cross the river to Oltrarno (literally: beyond the river) for short stroll into this quieter more residential area of town, dotted with magnificent private residences, jewel like churches (like Santo Spirito) and innumerable high end artisans shops.

Past the giant and austere Palazzo Pitti we cross back at Ponte Vecchio, the old bridge so dear to any visitor, world renown since the late 16th century for its incomparable jewellers’ shops.

Dulcis in fundo, last leg of our very special day in Florence, we shall head to the Uffizi Galleries. Your guide will briefly lecture you in front of the top of the top paintings for approximately 30 minutes and then will set you free to stay longer and continue exploring on your own.
