DESIGN IN MILAN: THE NEW MUSEUM & CITY LIFE
Our Design in Milan tour focuses on the new Museum of Design and on City LIfe
A relaxing walk in the green of Parco Sempione will lead us to the ‘metaphysical’ architecture of the Triennale Design Museum, simply ‘Triennale’ for the Milanese. Designed in 1933 by Giovanni Muzio, it seems to be coming out one of Giorgio De Chirico paintings.
It is the ‘house’ of the Italian and foreign designers that work and live here. The Triennale hosts every year a series of temporary exhibitions and has now a brand new (April 2019) permanent Museum of Design.
The exhibit showcases for the moment 200 objects from 1948 until 1981.
Simple and linear – it follows the chronological order. The display is a fantastic walk through some of the icons of Italian design of the ‘golden years’, starring the Brionvega radio, the Kiss armchair, the ‘moonboots’ and many others.
The Museum of Design will be completed by 2022, see the interview with Stefano Boeri, president of the Triennale here
After a visit to the superb bookshop and a coffee or an aperitif at the Design Café’ – with a view on the park and on spectacular Torre Branca (Gio Ponti, 1933) our Design in Milan walk continues…after a while the horizon becomes…vertical! We are approaching City Life, three ‘strange’ towers
